The Hiking Life

I, Rebecca, am a lover of the outdoors, especially when it involves hiking. Hiking is just amazing. If I were to talk to you about my future plans, then you would come to find that I am an outdoor person, and that there are no two activities I love more running and hiking. I was first introduced to the world of hiking by my parents back when I was about 5 years of age, and from there my love for hiking blossomed incredibly. Although I don't have time to go hiking every single weekend, the free time I find to go hiking makes up for it all, the walk with nature, which also involves some running and skipping since my heart is doing what it loves to do.

When I hike, there are no worries in my mind. I don't think about school or worry about about tomorrow, since my mind is occupied with the beauty of nature and the thrill of running up and down hills no matter how steep, just to get that wonderful feeling that runs through my body. The results after hiking is also amazing too, like a healthy glowing face, the slight feeling of sore legs (which doesn't happen often unless it's a 10 mile hike), and accomplishment and happiness. I hike about three times a year with family and at least six or more times with my second family, the wonderful church friends in my life, my fellow Midwaynians. With one of favorite girls there, we have established the tradition of doing the bow and arrow together during each hike, each time we look better than the previous.

Usually when I hike, I find myself comfortable in a t-shirt/tank top, shorts, and black socks, where I can move freely and more faster than the others around me. I usually do a quick one or two minute stretch before a hike since I don't want to pull a muscle and also because I want to be quick to run away from danger. Towards the middle of the hike is when I usually do my bow and arrow pose, since that is when my legs are fully warmed up and ready for poses. After a nice long hike, I often finish with a granola bar, an orange, and some water, which seriously fills me up for the rest of the day.

One of my most memorable hikes was one that was originally planned to be a nice five mile hike to enjoy nature and just catch up with friends. We started from the top of a hill, and planned on hiking down and back up in a circle. However, the further we got, we began separating since some of us began hiking at faster paces than others. Luckily, we were split in pairs; there were three guys in the front, about five mins ahead of my friend and I, then two girls that were about eight mins behind us, and another three who were six mins behind that group, since one of the girls wasn't feeling well. (We always time each other for fun.) The scariest part of that hike was that the area where we were hiking in was full of rattlesnakes, and we could hear them as we went along our way. My friend and I were terrified since the hills were steep, and we honestly didn't know where to turn since there were so many trials that split into two different directions and the guys ahead of us were too far to hear our cries of  "Where are you?" But luckily, there were footprints left behind, so we followed those. In the end, we all grouped up safely and happily and got some Jamba Juice. :) What a day that was, a five mile hike that turned into a ten mile hike.
